When working with a sleep coach it’s important to make sure you feel like you connect and can trust what they’re saying
Caroline Goodwin
As a mum of two boys with bad reflux, I know what it feels like to endure endless sleepless nights and days full of short naps. It got so bad at times that I didn't dare leave the house if a nap was due, and I was up regularly at midnight searching high and low for solutions. I eventually reached out to a sleep coach for support. Just having someone to listen, understand with no judgement and guide me through lifted such a weight off my shoulders and saved my sanity!
I have now had the amazing privilege to have trained in paediatric sleep, under that very same sleep coach who I feel is one of the very best in the field. When I started out as a sleep coach, I was also working as an Education Mental Health Practitioner for the NHS in schools. I started combining my knowledge of the science of sleep with my knowledge of child development and behaviour from my previous degree and Masters in Psychology and Special Needs Education as well as 8 years of experience as a primary school teacher. I started delivering sleep workshops as well as providing 1:1 support to get sleep back on track and improve the mental health & wellbeing of both children and their parents. I was officially obsessed with sleep!
The families I was working with had children aged 5-18 and I could see that this was an area where there seemed to be no support for parents around sleep. There just seemed to be an expectation that you had to wait until they were older and they’d grow out of their difficulties. But this didn’t help all those families that were shattered, no longer sharing a bed with their partner or feeling like they’d lost their identity and freedom because they weren’t able to leave their child with anyone else over night. So that’s when I decided to found Midnight Mentor Sleep and get the word out that you can still get your child to sleep once they’ve left the toddler years.
My role as a sleep coach is to empower you with the knowledge to get better sleep for everyone in the house. Building on my background in child development, education, sleep coaching and mental health, I aim to look at the full picture and make suggestions to improve the whole family's sleep.
